History
Iwanoski Funeral Home
Just after the turn of the 20th century The Iwanoski Family moved to St. Paul. By 1912 Felix Iwanoski was working as an embalmer's apprentice with Frank Godbout, a well known funeral director, who's business was located on Wabasha St. near the State Capitol Building. In 1916, Felix started his own undertaking business, opening his first funeral parlor at 93 West 7th St. in Downtown St. Paul. The business was later moved to Wabasha Street. In 1949, Vernon Iwanoski (nephew of Felix) moved the business to 1235 Arcade St. on St. Paul's Eastside and renamed the company Phalen Park Funeral Home.
Thorsell Mortuary
In the 1890's The Thorsell Mortuary was opened and ran by The Thorsell Family in Downtown St. Paul until John Thorsell merged with Vernon Iwanoski, Phalen Park Funeral Home. After John Thorsell and Vernon Iwanoski retired, Phalen Park Funeral Home was owned and operated by David Thorsell (John's son) and E. Peter Vasey.

Maple Oaks Funeral Home
In September of 1976, David Thorsell and E. Peter Vasey opened Maple Oaks Funeral Home at 2585 Stillwater Rd. in Maplewood. In 2005, Phalen Park Funeral Home merged with Maple Oaks Funeral Home and is now known as Maple Oaks / Phalen Park Funeral Home. After many years of caring and service we still care about every family and would be happy to help you with all your funeral needs.
